SBA Loan

Financing made by participating lenders under a U.S. Small Business Administration program, subject to lender and SBA requirements.

How SBA Loan works

SBA loans are made by participating lenders and may receive a guaranty from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The guaranty supports the lender; it does not eliminate the borrower's obligation to repay.

Programs can support working capital, equipment, acquisition, expansion, or qualifying owner-occupied real estate. The process is document-intensive and typically takes longer than many online commercial products. Excel Capital Funding is not the SBA and does not guarantee eligibility, approval, terms, or timing.

Evaluation process

  1. Discuss the project, ownership, available contribution, and timing.
  2. Assemble a complete lender package with tax, financial, legal, and project records.
  3. A participating lender evaluates the application under its credit policy and the relevant SBA program rules.
  4. Approved transactions proceed through lender conditions, SBA authorization when required, third-party reports, documentation, and closing.

Points to consider

  • SBA eligibility does not guarantee lender approval.
  • Guarantee fees, packaging costs, appraisals, legal expenses, or other closing costs may apply.
  • Collateral and personal guarantees may be required even though the SBA supports the loan.
  • Confirm that the proposed use of proceeds and ownership structure comply with the selected program.

Frequently asked questions

Does the SBA lend money directly?

For the common 7(a) and 504 structures, participating lenders or certified development companies make or arrange the financing. The SBA provides program oversight and, where applicable, a guaranty.

How long does an SBA loan take?

Timing depends on the program, lender, transaction complexity, and completeness of the file. Real estate, acquisitions, and construction may require additional reports and closing steps.
